For the last four years this Silverlake home has served as the base of operations for husband and wife duo Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis, of Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. The 550 sf rental cottage has three lofts; Lucky, Alisha, and daughter Ella (9), use two of the lofts for sleeping, and the third is used for storage.
Alisha calls their aesthetic "Ray and Charles Eames meets Pee-Wee Herman." The space is filled with musical instruments, found objects (the wall letters), original art work including pieces by Micah Player and Scott Coopersmith Design, modern shapes, and custom furniture. Alisha tells us that they aim for "a whimsical, functional, cozy, and clean home." The exterior is the thoughtful work of the family's landlady, artist and landscape designer Ketti Kupper.
The space is eclectic and cheerful, just like the music of Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. ¡Fantastico! has been nominated for a Latin Grammy and consists of Spanish language recordings of songs from their first three albums, Luckiest Adventure, A Potluck, and Oh Lucky Day! With their brand new release, Lishy Lou and Lucky Too, The band presents a cast of characters inspired by an old-fashioned radio show. The idea came about during a family road trip, as Lucky, Alisha, and Ella found tremendous pleasure in sharing stories and discovering music that they could all enjoy together.
Have a listen at Lucky and the Family Jam Band.
Thanks Alisha & Lucky!
