Name: Christian May
Location:Los Angeles, California
Your Pet's Name: Ted (dog) and Richard (cat)
When did he/she come into your life?: In 2006, I found Richard the Cat and his two sisters as tiny kittens in an alley in West Hollywood. His sisters were adopted, but Richard ended up staying and growing into a giant, mutant 22 lb cat (I affectionately call him "my big fat alley cat"). He's not just fat, but BIG.
Ted, my dog, was a rescued from the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter by Molly's Mutts and Meows. My sweet girl dog had just passed away, and I needed a canine friend to fill the void, and he had to be cat-friendly. One look at Ted's photo on the MMM website, and I knew he was the one. Plus he was being fostered just minutes from my house with a family with 5 cats. I took this as yet another sign we were meant to be together.
Now the three of us are one big happy family. Sort of. The cat loves the dog, but the dog pretends the cat doesn't exist- sort of like my big sister and I growing up. But we turned out ok!
Where would we most likely find your pet in your home?: On my bed. we all sleep together. And when I'm not home, that's where you'll find Richard and Ted, curled up near each other, but never touching.
Pet specific features of the home: I keep a cheap eBay-purchased "mink" acrylic zebra blanket on the bed on top of my nicer sheets and duvet. It can take all the abuse two animals with sensitive stomachs can throw at it, but it's not so ugly that I hate my life having to look at it every day. It's my big concession. Well, that and no expensive rugs, only cowhides and indoor/outdoor area rugs. Thank goodness there are so many great inexpensive options for both on the market these days.
What do you love most about living with your pet?: The unconditional love and the joy they bring, even on days when life ain't so good. For the rest of my days I will always have rescue animals in my life
