Name: Lana Kim

Your Pet's Name: Solomon & Twiggy
When did he/she come into your life?: Solomon came into my life 17 years ago. My uncle rescued him and gave him to my family when one of our family dogs had passed away a few months earlier. He's now been with me for over half my life.
I adopted Twiggy about 4 years ago. I got an email from a friend about a dog with a broken jaw that needed to be adopted or would be euthanized the next morning. I called the shelter immediately, but she was just pulled by a rescue group. When the shelter would not give me the contact info for the rescue, I asked the them to pass on mine instead. I don't think they ever did, as I never got a call.
The whole situation got me thinking about adopting a second dog, and so I starting searching on Petfinder.org. Two months later, I find Twiggy on Petfinder, still with the rescue but still without a permanent home. It was meant to be!
Where would we most likely find your pet in your home?: Solomon: Pacing around the house. He's almost 18 years old but still loves to walk. In his old age he's forgotten how to walk backwards, so he gets stuck every once in awhile (IG: #stucksolomon), but it never stops him. He also loves sleeping next to me wherever I am.
Twiggy: Sunbathing or exploring in the yard, sleeping on the couch or on my bed, or staring at the cabinet where I keep their treats in the kitchen.
Pet specific features of the home: As Solomon has gotten old, it's been harder for him to walk on hardwood floors without slipping, so there are now many large rugs around the house. He also wears little grippy REI booties for non rugged areas. I also have "child proofed" little tight areas where he might get stuck.
I also got them an elevated pet feeder which is much easier for both of them to drink and eat from. Also keeps Solomon from stepping in his water bowl when walking around the kitchen.
I put one of their dog beds on the couch so that they would be able to still hang out on the couch without getting dog fur embedded everywhere.
There are also bells on the back door to the yard, so that Twiggy can easily let me know when she wants to go outside.
What do you love most about living with your pet?: Not having them home just wouldn't make it my home. More than just family, my dogs are an extension of who I am. They are a part of me. It sounds silly, but my house is just as much theirs as it is mine.
