We're basically shy, but when you have a book to flog you'll do anything, including sitting on your bed next to all your carefully arranged laundry change smiling for the camera.
In case you missed reading The Daily News yesterday, Apartment Therapy, the new book and yours truly got some great coverage.
In a two page spread, The Simple Life: Give your place a new lease on light by following this designer's tenets, everything that we believe in was proudly trumpeted in Daily News fashion... yes, there's juicy personal tidbits.
There is a lot in this article and much has been pulled from the book. Here is a really nice clip from the article from Deborah Needleman, the editor of Domino Magazine:
Deborah Needleman, the editor of Domino and a longtime fan, says that in the 2 1/2 years since apartmenttherapy.com came online, Gillingham-Ryan has become something of an icon to the "vast middle," between do-it-yourselfers and those led from showroom to showroom by decorators. What's so appealing, she says, is his total lack of snobbery, which makes his one of the few no-snark-zones in the blogosphere.
"He is driven by the love of design and the desire to connect people with resources and make their homes work for them," Needleman says. "You get the sense that he is reacting against the perfectly decorated home, where everything looks perfect but you don't feel comfortable and happy."
And with this, we are easily pushing our 13th minute of fame. Time to get back to work.
