We just received an email that Kate Norman, a designer, AT reader, contest winner and Fall Colors judge, passed away due to combination of medical challenges on May 24th.
A bright spark who impressed us online with her talent, intelligence and lively spirit, she was an early and active member of our online community, and she will be missed. Kate is survived by her partner and love, Eli Gelardin, who passes on the information below...
"Our family will be having a private service on Wednesday. I will be
planning a memorial gathering at my home at a later time and will let
you know as those plans solidify.
If you would like to make a small donation in Kate's name, please send to Heifer International (www.heifer.org, see "give" and specify "In memory of Kate Norman").
Kate's sister, Eileen, volunteered in Africa and admired Heifer
International's work towards ending hunger and poverty through
community sustainability.

message along to those who knew Kate.
Love,
Eli"

I'm so sad to hear this, my thoughts and prayers are with her family. I remember reading about Kate's universal design business and nonprofit. It really inspired me to advance my knowledge and nurture my own interest in home modification and universal design. Thank you, Kate.
:(
Our prayers will go to her and her love ones.
We will miss her.

I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and condolences are with her family.
This is a real shame...she had such a great design philosophy and perspective. It's great she was able to express herself here however briefly. Thanks Maxwell for giving her a voice.
Oh, no! How sad. My condolences to Eli and her family...
Oh, just checking in before bed and saw this sad news. My heart goes out to her loved ones--I am glad the AT community got to enjoy a bit of her talent and spirit. Thanks for sharing this, Maxwell.
Although Kate's was not the room I voted for in that color contest, I'm still very sad to hear of her passing. I agree with Patrick (too)... :(
So sad news... My deepest condolences to her family and Eli.
I love the other Kates, sad to hear this. Deepest condolences.
Oh very sad! Kate was cool.
