From the HOMETOWN LIFE site:
Royal Oak resident John Latin was named the Regional First Place Winner for the Midwest in a home decorating contest sponsored by Apartment Therapy.com and CB2, a division of Crate and Barrel.
Latin was awarded a $1,000 gift certificate to CB2 Nov. 15 at a reception in Chicago for finalists in the third annual Fall Colors Contest. He competed against 40 other Midwest contestants whose homes were showcased on the Apartment Therapy Web site along with contestants from the East, Southwest and Northwest. Visitors to the Web site, who were allowed to vote only once, chose the winners in each region.
Latin's home, a two-bedroom ranch, is decorated with a mix of mid-century and contemporary furnishings and employs the bold use of color in every room.
A graphic designer at Skidmore, a Royal Oak-based design and marketing company, Latin said he is inspired by color.
"I like to select a variety of colors that make a huge impact as you move from room to room," he said in a press release. "I use color to push areas, allowing furniture and art to pop."
In addition to the photographed interiors of his home, which he shot himself, Latin also created a short video as part of the competition. All are available for viewing on www.apartmenttherapy.com/fall-colors-2007. Latin's entry is under the "Midwest" section and is titled "John's Bold, Bright, Day or Night."
