AT:Chicago in Time Out Chicago's Home Decor Issue

This is not a bookcase is the tagline that goes along with this photo on the cover of this weeks Time Out Chicago, the annual Home Decor issue.
AT:Chicago took part in a chunky feature (pages 15-22) all about helping to make your home a bit more ahem, grown-up, stylewise called Space Age (get it?).

I was happy to be part of their team of experts to help solve 5 typical challenges as outlined by the TOC writers...

Matt Lorenz (head of ML Design Studio and Top Design winner), Mark Buchalter (IDEO), David Dilworth (DWR, WOM Space Gallery) and I each submitted ideas and solutions to the following:

  • Storage
  • Artwork
  • Seating
  • TV
  • Flooring

We think about these types of challenges all the time at AT:Chicago, issues of space, finances and style are definitely not just the concerns of recent college grads. Most city dwellers share them to some extent so it was a very AT-ish project to deliver a list of ideas.

We are happy with the ones that made it in:
the always cool componobili storage units...the space smart, flexible swivel sofa...local printmakers like The Bird Machine, Spike Press and The Post Family...painting your old floors or using tatami...and accessorizing with colorful cushions from Unison and Poppy Cotton.

Also in the Home Decor issue are articles on "notable Chicagoans showing off home decor purchases that made them feel like adults" and ideas on showing off your collectible toy collection with pride.

Issue #137 is on newsstands now.

(Thanks to Jessica Herman and TOC!)
