We love updates from you, our readers! Reader submitted photos of renovation and home improvement projects are the gifts that keep on giving, in terms of advice and inspiration, and are amongst our most popular posts. Today, we're sharing an update from a Downtown LA loft we posted in January. I think you'll agree, it's looking House Tour ready....
Hey there. Just wanted to update you guys on my "work in progress" loft that you had featured a while ago. Since then I have done a few more things with bits and pieces from Ikea and wanted to share it with you guys.
The coffee table I got for 10.00 in the ikea as-is section. It was a dining room table but just cut the legs off and there you go.
The shelf units are Laxvik frames from Ikea but the white shelves are again, High gloss doors from the as-is section. The top shelves were 10.00 a piece and the shorter ones were 2.00 a piece. The whole thing cost me around 65.00 dollars.
One last thing. The prints of my original photos were all printed online at Costco. 10.00 for a 20x30 matte finish prints on archival Kodak paper. Not ink jets!!!
Hope you guys like the progress so far!
Thanks,
Alex [you might also recognize Alex's place from a recent seating tip post]

This place is beautiful! Is this at the Barker Block?
I love it. The silver really stands out against the dark walls!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the dark walls and cabinets and the contrast with monochromatic furniture. Brilliant.
Great job!!!
how about a cool kitchen island / high bar table hybrid thingie to separate the LR and kitchen?
Those dark walls are fantastic!!! I love it!
Great place, you worked in IKEA without it looking "IKEA"! The dark walls look nice against the light floor.
Great home! I've been following this one since January. I look forward to a full home tour when its finished.
L.O.V.E. The dark wall(s)! What brand/colour is it?
He said in his previous post that the dark wall is chalkboard paint. Very cool.
you're the master in incorporating ikea smartly. beautiful.
What is that paint color?
I'd love to see some more details and pics of that kitchen...
Is that a full black? I echo the sentiment about wanting to see more of the kitchen.
The place looks amazing!
Thanks everyone for the positive comments.
Just wanted to answer a few questions.
The loft is located at the "SB lofts" on the corner of 6th and spring in downtown LA. The paint is chalkboard paint but cant find the old cans so I can't give you the brand. You can find it at any paint store or the smaller hardware stores. Home depot has it but in very small cans.
Anyway, thanks again.
