We don't mind this chore. After nearly a decade in California, it was a treat to return to seasons when we moved to Chicago. One of the pleasures of changing weather is the changing of the wardrobe - we love getting out the clothes we haven't worn in a while and having that fresh start.
It makes a huge difference if you pack your things that are going out of rotation away nicely. We think these large garment bags from the Container Store are perfect.
Take your freshly laundered or back-from-the -cleaners items, hang them, and store like items all together in the bags (don't jam them in - get an extra bag if you need more room). Put something nice smelling, like one or two of the dried lavender laundry sachets from Trader Joe's in the bottom, and zip. Place at the farthest reaches of your clothes closet (or better yet) in a storage closet and forget about sweaters and coats for a good long time!
