Finding speakers that suit your decor can be difficult and for some of us, it is best to invest in a pair that blend in and are heard but not seen. With that in mind, last week we profiled five speakers that keep a low profile. But today we discovered a prototype for a speaker, by the Swedish design company People People, that has already captured the attention of Wired Magazine.
The transparent speakers can be wall mounted or used free stranding. It has yet to be determined what the sound quality is like and if it will be available in sizes suitable for small apartments for those who do not wish to wall mount.

Until then, I'm pretty satisfied with my white Audio Engine speakers (shown here) that may not be totally hidden, but at least blend in fairly well.

i don't get it. how can it be called transparent if the speakers/cable/plug is still highly visible? it's in a transparent box. harmon kardon soundsticks are much better looking for the 'transparent' theme.
I've actually been working on my own transparent speakers using glass. Although glass is not an ideal enclosure material by means, the sound is good for most listening and for me the aesthetic benefits far outweigh any distortion. I had been building speakers for several years and just couldn't take the boring box anymore. You can see them and the construction process at ilikewood.
These speakers are nice, but I don't mind quality vintage speakers (coming from a person who hates electronics).
I can see this working in an industrial-style space, but I'm not crazy about all the visible wires.
In my opinion, nothing beats wood cased speakers for a warm, well-rounded sound. So I don't mind if my speakers are "visible"! My (inherited) 40-year-old Jensen's still impress friends when they first hear them.
tweeter mounted to a glass box sounds like a bad idea - though i think they had imagined using bulletproof glass = $$$.
they are gorgeous, but audiophiles everywhere are cringing.
Hah, i kept looking for the transparent ones, duh.
No thanks. I don't really mind my bookshelf Onkyos on stands.
