The portable stereo One of our favorite summertime activities is going onto our roof with some friends and some music and hanging out. Thankfully, doing this couldn't be easier as stereos have gotten much more compact and portable. Our favorite pick at the moment is the Memorex Party Cube (cheesy name, we know) but it is extremely durable, light weight, takes any iPod/iPhone model, holds a mean charge, and also plays the radio. The volume goes quite high and the quality is actually very acceptable considering its price and size.
The portable speaker Scaling down just slightly we arrive at the single portable speaker. Our current favorite is the Homedics Speaker-OTG (on the go). This tiny thing actually functions as a case/carrying pouch for your money/keys/music device. Unzip the compartment and there is a spot for batteries on one side and a way to safely and securely store your device and other valuables on the other. We like to take this thing with us when we go biking in a park. It's safer than listening to music in your headphones because you should really still be alert to the sounds around you when biking. But this speaker has plenty of other usages as well like camping, boating, or even in the car if your radio is broken!
The headphones And sometimes when you want to be less active yet still out for a calm walk or to read, all you need is some comfortable headphones that you can quickly take with you. If you don't mind investing in a beautiful sounding (and looking) set, we can't recommend the Grado Prestige SR225i headphones more. They have an excellent mid-range brightness and perform as the best in class for the price range. We also recommend this style for extended durations of listening because it will be more comfortable than the earbud variety. (Image: Flickr member iandavid licensed for use under Creative Commons.)
