Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: The sentimentality of the garden. The antique geranium is from cuttings from my grandmother's house over 10 years ago, and the gardenia was the centerpiece in a 6" pot at my nephew's wedding 5 years ago. There is also the ivy that my mother gave me 4 years ago that nearly died while my brother took care of it and I brought back to life, and the miniature rose that I rescued from a dark shelf at the drug store. I love sitting amongst plants that have meaning to me.
Biggest Design Challenge With This Space: Sunlight! The garden is southern facing surrounded by a 6' tall vine covered fence, and the light changes dramatically through the year. Finding just the right place for each plant's light need is challenging.
Tips for Creating a Great Small Outdoor Space: Surrounding yourself with whatever is tranquil to you. I like lush greenery with splashes of color with sentimental value. Much of the greenery came from cuttings from family members and many of the pots were leftovers from neighbors who moved away. It takes patience to turn those tiny cuttings into lush pants, and there is a wonderful feeling of satisfaction when they grow.
Thanks, Tina, and good luck!
