With a floor plan of only 48 square meters (515 square feet!) and 3 months to gut and refit this 2 bedroom apartment, there is no question that this project was challenging! Scott Weston (his amazing house tour is one of my all time favorites) took on this project and the results are impressive. An incredibly beautiful, practical space that meets all of the owners needs.
I'm hesitant to share cool lighting finds — particularly lamps. With a husband who can look at anything and say "that would make an awesome lamp" and a garage full of "awesome lamp" parts, I don't need any more bright lighting ideas around our house. However, these Block 2 lights by Henry Pilcher are too brilliant not to share…
We've seen a few examples of Tim's work before- remember his absolutely amazing beachside apartment before and after? Oh yes, Tim sure can make something out of almost nothing with an equally nothing budget. Having previously shared his office makeover with us, Tim now shares his renovation on the building's communal reception area. And he did it all for just $500.
Souvenirs are often craptacular. Australian souvenirs can be particularly embarrassing- clippy koala or ornamental boomerang anyone? We were very excited when we found the work of Make Me Iconic at our local bookshop; Melbourne themed souvenirs/homewares of places and things that locals find iconic.

I've got wrapping on the brain. Maybe because it's the good husband's 30th birthday today (Happy Birthday Dear!) or maybe it's because I'm finally prepared to admit— I suck at wrapping.
Melbourne, Australia might have a reputation for experiencing four seasons in one day, but thanks to Rafael Lozano-Hemmer the Sun now shines in Melbourne 24 hours a day! Whilst you may have thought that a scale model of the Sun involved poster-paint and a styrofoam ball, it actually takes seven computers, five of the worlds brightest HD projectors and the world’s largest round balloon – and you can even play God and control it all from your mobile device.
No space for a garden? Got some space but cant access the dirt? Maybe a Quadrant Garden would tickle your garden fancy? These flat packed gardens are smartly constructed, affordable and come in a handful of sizes. While we love the look of our veranda of pot plants, it is very tempting to upgrade to something that uses the space much more efficiently.
When I saw these on The Design Files today an audible "wow!" escaped my lips. Such a brilliant example of reusing something that most Australians would have sitting around in their garden sheds - an LPG Gas Bottle.
