My best friend has had two oversized crepe paper flowers for years that I have always coveted. They've moved with her from house to house and are always displayed in a large vase in such a beautiful sculptural way. Now, I'm going to make my own!

Some of you will gasp at the thought of covering up wood floors with a coat of black paint. Some of you will swoon! Whatever your persuasion, we've rounded up some of the most inspiring cases for adding the darkest color to your floors!

As a writer for a large interior design blog as well as an avid appreciator of all things decor, I try not to take myself too seriously. A friend tipped me off to this hilarious Tumblr blog that pokes fun at some oft-overwrought design trends.

2.8.12-duvet-1.jpgI've had trouble finding a new duvet cover for my bedroom. They're not cheap, so I want it to be something I will love for a while (not trendy!) that reflects my personal style. I have been looking for quite some time, but my search may be over...I'm in love with this hand-drawn DIY duvet cover, and may just have to make my own!

I often dream of working in an office full of creative, playful and inspiring decor, like the Google, Etsy and Facebook headquarters... The Denmark office of Lego is no exception! I fear, though, that I would be distracted by all of the amazing design and never get any work done.

This week I overhauled the closet in the studio. I've been on a mission to efficiently organize the huge amount of supplies my fiance and I have accumulated! 020112-yardsale.jpgJanuary was all about starting 2012 off right — we cleaned and rearranged and organized the heck out of our home. Most of all, for my fiance and I, there was purging. Working from home in a house that we've lived in for just about 6 months, my workspace is definitely still evolving. A lot. I've been on the hunt lately for some stylish, functional, and affordable desktop organization tools. Pretty demanding, huh! One of my favorite sources for items that meet all three of my requirements has really been showcasing the power of sleek supplies, lately.

I will admit it: my shoes are all roaming free on the floor of my closet. While I happen to have just tidied them in my new-year bout of cleaning, they typically end up in a dreadful pile. Next on my list of storage solutions to tackle is finding a better solution for my shoes. Here are some of my favorite options!

Reading through my favorite design blogs can create a sense of inferiority in even the most talented and ambitious homesteader. My online peers seem to be the most design-savvy, motivated and ingenious folks in the world--they have the prettiest homes, eat the most delicious food, wear the best outfits, and manage to blog about it regularly on their super stylish blog! But it's time to get real for a minute.
