Letters are very special. There are only 26 letters in the English language, yet they hold infinite potential as they are the building blocks of words. So, as we all know, letters form words and words create language. But could letters, as special as they are, build something in addition to words. How about furniture?

From its soft texture to its time-tested durability, felt is an incredible textile. The are a number of applications for felt and, more recently, designers are using creative ways to incorporate felt in their design. The latest example I saw that caught my eye was of the Felt and Gravity series by Amy Hunting.

Rosie Li is a designer fresh out of RISD's Furniture Design program, but she already has a great line of work that is completely unique and intelligent. There is a definite theme with optical illusions to her work, and one that especially caught my eye was her Striped Bench.

Boston's Jane Miller is the owner of the incredible design shop, J.E.M., in the South End. She features works of furniture, housewares, and art by some incredible talented designers, but one of the most captivating works at J.E.M. is done by Jane herself. Behold, the Lucite Bench.

Wool felt is a textile that has been made for millennia using a traditional technique of matting, condensing, and pressing wool fibers. Boston based designer Cary Hewitt is applying this ancient technique to create beautifully modern reversible rugs.

Rocking chairs are the best. Rocking lounges are even better. This amazing Rocker Lounge is a piece created by the Boston-based design duo, Pelrine & Durrell.

The Manifold Clock is a completely new way to look at time. Designed by the Israeli industrial design team, Studio Ve, this wall-mounted clock is just as much as a sculptural art piece as it is a utility for telling time.

The Italian Percolator is an iconic machine in the history of producing a great cup of coffee. By making a cast of the percolator, Boston-based designer Frank Criscione took the form of this classic coffee image to create a mug and espresso cups.

Often times great concepts are created in a very small amount of time, through short bursts of brilliance. Adam Simha, of MKS Design, had such an experience with the conceptualization of the 5 Minute Chair, which was named after the time it took him to develop the chair's prototype.
