7-24-2008flatscreen.jpgQ: I recently purchased "iKlear Apple Polish" to clean my laptop and iPod screens with. The company claims that it is "environmentally friendly" but they do not disclose their ingredients on the bottle (nor can I find them on the website). It does say that it is manufactured in California and it is free of alcohol, ammonia, and sodium. Do you know anything about this company and if its ingredients are actually environmentally friendly, or do you have an alternative suggestion to environmentally-friendly LCD cleaner?

2-19-2009woodfloor.jpgQ: I have old hardwood floors, the finish is mostly worn off, and refinishing isn't an option. I used to rub this lemon wax stuff on them and they looked great, but I think it was toxic. Does anyone know of a nontoxic wood floor product I can use to get some luster back into the floor?

drain.jpgQ: Do you know of any green alternatives to Draino? I've tried vinegar and baking soda with a boiling water chaser to no avail.

6-17-2009dish.jpgSo, apparently the greenest way to wash dishes is with an efficient dishwasher? Unfortunately, we still do ours by hand (not by choice). So all of you who are lucky enough to live in a home with a dishwasher, you might as well use a green dishwashing detergent ... right? Want to know which is the best? We've got it for you after the jump.

9-15-2008diaper.jpgQ: I'm about to have my first baby and my question is about diapers. What's the best eco-friendly diaper? Is it Seventh Generation diapers, or gdiapers, or some other eco-friendly disposable or cloth brand?

9-12-2007bag.jpgQ: Does anyone know where I can turn in plastic bags for recycling, particularly in the NYC and Brooklyn area, but also any national organizations? There used to be a bin in the Food Emporium at Union Square, but it was taken away.

Small is cool. Small is also green. A small bedroom can be cozy. A small kitchen can be efficient. A small home in general presents an opportunity to use space creatively, to tread more lightly on the earth. A small bathroom though ... a small bathroom is a different story.

3-11-2010waterwise.jpgMarch is Kitchen and Bath Month, and really, if you think about it, water use and water waste are probably the biggest eco-hurdles we encounter in these two rooms. We assume that many of you spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out how to use less water in your kitchen and bathroom. If we're right, you might be interested in a design competition that Dwell magazine is running from now through June 1, 2010: The Water Wise Design Competition.

3-11-2010glasses.jpgWe love the glasses made from upcycled beer and soda bottles, but we recognize that they're not for everyone. (For instance, we don't think Mom would like 'em.) However, Mom would love these recycled glass tumblers from Novica.

3-10-2010jeans.jpgThis weekend, while we were out shopping for some lighter spring clothes, we saw an interesting sign outside of the Gap. It said, essentially, "bring in any old piece of denim and we'll give you 30% off a new pair of jeans." We figured they were recycling the old denim, but we didn't know how.
