Before I get started with this tour, I cannot emphasize this enough: My husband and I are not rich and we are not particularly handy. Heck, we're not even all that smart. This latter fact was probably the driver behind why two people with little money and even fewer skills would even attempt to build a cabin on an isolated island with no amenities. But armed with a hacked $25 shed plan and an incredibly generous friend with actual skills, we gave it a shot. Here's how it turned out.

Never underestimate the power of positive thinking. Sometimes reading just the right words at just the right time can give you just the push you need to get things done... or to stop doing and relax. Fortunately for all of us, inspirational posters have a come a long way since those of the "If life hands you lemons..." variety. We guarantee at least one of these prints will put a smile on your face.*

081910-invisible-table-1.jpgRemember Isabelle and Juliette's beautiful room tour? Like all great kids' rooms, it's a neverending work in progress. Louise – the girls' creative, resourceful mom – just wrote in to share her latest project: an "invisible nightstand" perfect for rooms without space for a regular night table.

081810-silhouette-1.jpgYou know, I didn't think I'd get all gooshy about the fact that my firstborn is entering kindergarten in just a couple of weeks, but despite my best intention, I can feel a powerful wave of gooshiness coming on. In fact, I might just need to commemorate the big day with an awesome custom poster from Apple Blossom Prints.

081710-dragonflies-1.jpgWe have a bottomless well of love for quick crafts we can make outdoors, so it's understandable that 5 Orange Potatoes has become one of our new favorite blogs. The site is chockablock with inspiring nature posts, including regular "outdoor challenges" such as these adorable dragonflies made with twigs and maple keys.

The brainchild of Danish designer Soren Rose, Gymnasium is a new line of furniture designed to tap into our collective nostalgia for our bygone schooldays. Most of my memories of school gyms revolve around trying to avoid them, and I still love these pieces – so I'd say he's done a pretty good job.

For those of you who love the idea of a great big chalkboard but can't abide the thought of chalk dust in your home, Ohdeedoh reader Ellyn offers up this awesome weekend project. As you can see, it's been a big hit with her son, Sebastian.

081210-magic-beans.jpgWell, maybe these weren't exactly magical, but they were still pretty tasty. We had just enjoyed some fresh snap peas for dinner, and I was in the process of doling out the last of our jellybean stash as an after-dinner treat when I spotted the empty pods on the counter. Inspiration, as they say, struck.

081110-cate-Anevski2.jpgWe came by these pieces via our favorite embroidery blog (yes, we have a favorite embroidery blog), Feeling Stitchy, which created and posted this awesome mosaic of Cate Anevski's work. We love the idea of hanging a small collection of these whimsical (yes, we said whimsical) little faces on a nursery wall.

We all know that a good desk setup makes us feel good about sitting down and taking care of business, so it stands to reason that kids are no different, right? A proper chair and correctly proportioned table are just a start. As these lovely workspaces demonstrate, the beauty truly is in the details.
