This is MePa. Setting up camp in MePa (the Meatpacking district) are more and more small shops, all holding on like mussels to the coolness, hipness and PLEASE COULD WE HAVE SOME MORE FOOT TRAFFIC that has overcome this area. While not all cool areas are created equal, MePa has established itself early on for real unique and interesting stores.
Auto is one of them. On Washington Street (and just off the main drag) this little hole in the wall is a gem of a store. Called by NY Mag, "the brainchild of product designers agents who wanted more than a showroom for their client brood," the cool white interior that allows you to focus on what's there: a small great selection of housewares, bedding and accessories. Our favorites are the Alex Marshall dinnerware (we found her in Marin years ago, and LOVE her stuff)(pic above), the John Robshaw pillows and bedding (pic below), and the Ratzer merino blankets. This is the place to go when you want to finish off your apartment.... MGR
