The Clean Cut paper towel dispenser and cutter retails for $129 from Hammacher Schlemmer. You can use any roll of paper towel you choose and although it at first seems silly, it could actually be helpful (even though it means taking up precious under-counter space).
We like that the technology exists to export a product to it and alter it's state upon our command, but we're not really sure this is the best use of it. It is however possible that homes that do still use paper towels (eco-friendly or not) might really appreciate a product like this, especially if your main use for them is in the kitchen or with children and you're worried about contamination issues. Is this something you'd use in your own home? Let us know why or why not below!

Probably a good idea for someone with immunity issues who really needs to be careful about contamination of anything.
This product is so over kill for a home, but it seems to work way better than any of those automatic paper dispensers in public restrooms. And in fact, I actually love the design of this. The hover over to load, hover over to cut design is really genius.
The problem is sometimes you actually will need more paper towel than you dispense and sometimes less. You often can't tell at first so this product seems useless.
Also, why do you have to press 2 buttons? Shouldn't it cut automatically when you release the dispense button?
phototristan - There aren't actually any buttons, you simply hover your hand in either area and it dispenses and cuts when you put your hand in the other area.
If it cut automatically when you removed your hand from the area, then it would fall to the floor without you being able to catch it first!
Always on, single point activation. I can already see Pussy pawing at it for a whole roll's worth... Pet owners might want to think twice.
Holy unitasker!
It probably would end up wasting paper towels but I like the idea of cutting what you need. Sometimes I want two full sheets, sometimes only half.
neverenough - I'm all for this if they learn to utilize the towels they cut to clean up their own yak (which always ends up in my shoes... ew).
ew.
I think Kaete is spot on that this is perfect for someone with immunity issues/heath problems. In the commercial they claim that it holds ANY type of paper towel, and maybe it's just me but that machine doesn't look tall enough for my beloved thick Bounty rolls.

My name is Brian Shaw with CLEANCut Dispenser. I would like to answer some of the above comments and thank you for all of the interest.
The Dispenser takes any brand/ any size of paper towel. It is extremely easy to load, please check out our website www.cleancutdispener.com to view how.
You break LED beams to dispense and cut paper towel and then it is HELD READY for you. It is two steps because sometimes you dispense 3" of towel and then realize you need 6" before you cut.
I have one installed in my kitchen and it is great. Less contamination, use less paper towel, and it is so convenient.
I can answer any questions at bshaw@cleancutdispenser.com or 866-599-7066. Thanks.
is it really that difficult for someone to pull a paper towel from the roll? Yikes...
Are we really getting that lazy.
This is completely stupid.
Great idea, so you dont have to touch the roll with wet hands leaving marks on it, and the roll is covered so wont have flys and crap land on it.
Contamination? Seriously? This sort of anal behaviour is the reason children grow up to suffer from allergies
I realize that this post is super old, but I saw this on DIY today and automatically thought of my father-in-law who is crippling rheumatoid arthritis. You all laugh at the way this is engineered to make people lazy, but for me, I see another way for my FIL to continue to be independent because he has a really hard time tearing off paper towels. This might make a great gift for him!
Just saw this product on a home show on TV and really love the idea and look of the dispenser! I was really sold on the idea that any size roll can be used, and that you can dispense any amount you want before cutting it. I would like to know how tall the unit is, so I can fgure on how far it will hang below my cabinet. I don't like that it is priced at $129.00, a much more reasonable price would be around $50.00 and would generate a lot more sales! I could justify buying one at that price. I also like the fact that it is available in black.
