We believe houseplants are beautifying and healthy additions to any home. But not all of us are green thumbs, with the majority of plants perishing due to either overzealous watering or negligent underwatering. And what about for those precious vacations when you fly the coop for fair weather and foreign destinations, but still have to worry about your thirsty photosynthesizing friends? Hammacher Schlemmer's solution is their $65 Automatic Plant-Watering System. Capable of watering up to 20 plants for up to 40 days using only one 9-volt battery, this houseplant-sitter even utilizes a "polyamide filter removes rust, dirt, and other impurities so drippers wont clog" to free you from your duties as a constant gardener.

how synchronistic! my brother just gave me a set of cigarette cards printed with household tips from the 30's. one card is the low tech version of this and suggests running a length of yarn from a giant pot of water, slightly elevated, to each plant. i guess it's true that the more things change, the more they stay the same
abby: I'd love to see those cards! What a keen gift. Just goes to show it's true that "what once was old is now new!"
