Recently, we featured a fabulous white nursery designed for Sebastian, the young son of one of the founders of Sissy + Marley, a boutique baby planner and design service firm. And now, they're back with a fantastic tour of a bedroom that they designed for their little six-year-old client, Ava. The room mixes bohemian chic with girly pink for startlingly beautiful results.

The team at Sissy + Marley provides several levels of design service. For Ava's family, they offered their "Instantly Chic" package, aimed at clients who have good DIY skills and don't need full design execution. Sissy + Marley creates a design scheme and finds fantastic elements, and then they put it all into a "room in a box" package that includes a custom inspiration board, floor plan, and a resource list.
Ava's room combines seemingly disparate motifs—bright pink, Moroccan themes, birds—into a modern, global, and welcoming room.

We asked Chelsea, one of the owners of Sissy + Marley, about the process of designing Ava's special space.
How would you describe the look and feel of this room?
Bohemian chic: a trip to Marrakech.
What is your favorite piece or element? What is Ava's favorite piece?
Our favorite piece is the Madeline Weinrib Brooke Rug in hot pink. We feel like it really tells the story of the room. Ava's favorite pieces are the Tamar Mogendorff bird houses above her bed.

What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
Pleasing our little client. It was important that we listened to what Ava's dream space looked like and delivered. We can confirm: Ava is a happy camper.
You seem to have several diverse themes going that all work well together: birds, pink, and a kind of global, Indian-influenced aesthetic. Did you start with one idea and add the others, or did you always know you had to mix several concepts together?
Our signature look is definitely a little bohemian chic. We love poufs, cotton dhurrie rugs, Moroccan prints and textiles, and handmade pieces mixed with modern traditional furniture. Together the two worlds always seem to mix well for us.

Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for a young girl?
Yes! Let your children be a part of the design process. It is important that you are creating a space filled with all of the things they love.

Yes, this is a gorgeous room-- but wow! Quite the budget!! For example, those birdhouses above the bed are $150-$200 each.
Expensive but fabulous. And I'm not a pink type of girl either. Beautiful- but what else would you expect from Sissy + Marley?!
the rug/pouf combo are making me swoon. beautiful room.
Beautiful.
The whole room is gorgeous, but that rug...
omg i LOVE this. what a sophisticated and smart use of pink. as the mother of two boys, this sort of makes me week in the knees. i also love the double mirrors and the series of art over the desk.
Gorgeous! Always love a Madeline Weinrib rug and hand made decor by Tamar Mogendorff
Beautiful room, but dare I say, does not look like much FUN to live in, especially for a six year old. Not even something snuggly like a ratty old teddy bear on the bed.
Roughly how much do Madeline Weinrib rugs cost? I couldn't find pricing on their website. They look gorgeous!
I had the same thought as breejasper: it’s hard to imagine a 6 year old in the room. It looks more like a designer portfolio than a real room – maybe the signs of childhood were swooped up for the photo shoot.
It’s beautiful though and seems like a room that could last through the teen and young adult years. I like the mature use of pink – there’s a lot of pink in that room, but it doesn’t feel like a candy shop.
I too am in desperate need of that rug..does anyone know where I can find a similar rug or how much this one costs?
love the simple pink and white!
Re: Weinrib rugs...you have to call for pricing, lol, which is an indicator that I, for one, could never afford one. They are gorg! I think the flat weaves run somewhere between $1200 -$1800. Love, love this room.
Here's their pricelist:

So gorgeous but I could see many of the pieces being fab in an office for me, a 40 year old, seems a bit sophisticated for a little girl. The mirrors, rug and desk are gorgeous!
an absolutely chic room. love the rug.
You can find great deals on Madeline rugs from ABC carpet warehouse in Bronx. I have seen the one in the photo there and sharply reduced price. The room is quite cute but too matchy matchy for my taste. Looks more like a page in a catalogue but that is a look many well to do parents like for the little kids. They want the room match the house decor.
It's a lovely room, but...
Where are the books? Where are the little craft projects from school that no one knows where to put? All her elastics and hairbands and bracelets? What about Groovy Girls, Pet Shops, My Little Ponies, and Play Mobil sets? The painted ceramics that she made at her friends' birthday parties, and the pictures of her giggling with her friends, and all the horse drawings?
I have a 7 year old daughter, and can't imagine a little girl's room without all those things. (where the heck do they go when she brings them home? If a room doesn't allow for storing and displaying those sorts of things -- the stuff of every little girl's life -- then it isn't well-designed. It's pretty, but not practical.)
From the look of this (ok, beautiful) room, they can probably afford a connecting play room;-)
And this room is so not Bohemian. The title so far off it's actually a little annoying.
Beautiful room and nice use of pink. I think that it is more chic than bohemian. The "chic" elements pop more than the bohemian.
Yeah. So not Bohemian.
I understand that the room's probably been staged for the shoot, but I can't help thinking it looks a little sterile for a 6-year-old girl. My daughter also has a pale pink and white room, decorated with a Venetian mirror and a similar chest of drawers, the surface of which is full of her knick-knacks, pictures and souvenirs. Not a bundle of giant crayons (!?) and 4 pristine-looking books.
Well said mschatelaine....all of those items are just overflowing in my six year old's room...her creative spirit far outshines any of my attempts at interior decor!
LOVE this room! Thanks for sharing!
It's very pretty, but it makes me a little sad...a little sterile. And I wonder about the reference that was made about their little client. Is this really the room she wanted or the room her mother wanted her to have?
Yes, so uptight for a kid's room- thumbs down!
I agree too. My child would be much happier to have a shelf full of paper, tape, glitter, glue, books, her tedddy etc. than that pink rug.
Personally, I feel, make the room as simple, and then let your child be the designer. The whole idea of hiring a designer for a 6 year old feels so unnecessary, rich or not. It tells me the parents did not think the child has enough ideas or creativity.
Not everyone raises their child the same way.
WOW. Beautiful. Love that pouf esp. Man I want this for my bedroom!
I agree that this room is absolutely gorgeous but I couldn't help thinking that it would be a very good candidate for a "get the look for less" comparison. I think part of being creative is not necessarily tricking out your kid's room with the Serena and Lily catalogue. At the same time, part of me thinks "if you can afford it, then why not!"
Needless to say, I am very jealous of this 6 year old's luxurious digs!
I love this room. It is sooo very pretty. I don't think it is too sterile. I think that with time, little Ava will add her personal touch to her space. I do think it is important to design and create kids rooms that work for both parents and kids. I get to spend a lot of time with my kids in their rooms. So I appreciate that their rooms follow the same style as the rest of our house while still keeping them kid friendly. So overall, I think the designers have done an excellent job.
another resource for a similar rug is calypso home.
Any other resources for chic daybeds?
Very beautiful room. Would anyone know what the textile design name is for the rug? I found a bedding set in this wonderful marrakesh style fabric but don't know the name of this particular print : http://www.ballarddesigns.com/aim-26-23233-3be-pink-bedding-collection/linens-fabrics/bedding/212164
