I have something here that I've been saving for a rainy day, which it is, and I think this is also the first time in quite a while that I've used one of the new paints from Martha Stewart.
The color is Avocado Peel. OK, so it looks sort of like black. But look under the lights or by the window and you get a sense of how it glows, which is also how it looks in real life — you don't see the color as much as you feel it.
You might also think it's slightly counter-intuitive to paint the kitchen so dark. But to the contrary, I think it's so interesting and sexy that it becomes the vital heart of a somewhat otherwise neutral apartment.
I don't like green unless I love it. I love this one— it's more forceful and elegant that a pool table color or Kelly Green. This has a lot of blue in it, as opposed to yellow or brown.

Nomade Express Slee...
This just might be the color I've been looking for!
I agree with you - this colour is amazing on its own, is a nice alternative to black, and looks fantasticin the kitchen. A hint of drama looks great in small spaces, and this is a perfect example. I'd love to see the rest of this home - it's beautiful.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your dining room table? Love the paint!
Wow! Unexpected and pretty amazing.
In reference to the dining room table, I bought one that is similar at West Elm. I'm not sure if that's where this one came from. :)
Oh, I meant to comment. I loooove this color and think it is going either in my bath or kitchen. Thanks for the post!
Love it! I once lived in an apartment in Europe that had a super dark brown accent wall, which bordered on purple (sounds gross, but it was a sweet color!) which I would never have had the courage to paint myself, but which I was thankful for every day because it created such a depth and sophistication to the room. The shade of this wall is mesmerizing!
How comfortable are those Reidar chairs? I've been considering buying the blue ones for awhile now.
I think I could appreciate the color more if the lighting were better, it just looks like a dark color from the pics... maybe its my monitor. Either way I only have an idea of the color from your description.
I love it. This feels like the inside of the MacMurray Ranch (Russian River Valley vineyard), a very campy, 1950's style retreat/lodge. I've got a space I'd like to use it on out in the country. The green feel seems a perfect fit.
Unfortunately, it looks as if the photograph hasn't been color corrected for the lighting (the white walls have a yellow tinge) so it's hard to get a real sense of this color.
Having said that, exploring alternate yet still dramatic takes on the black wall trend is a thumbs up!
I have a hard time getting the colour as the pics are not really good. I now can say something about your kitchen but the wall and its colour is too small on those pics. The light is also gross. Can we get a decent pic?
Thanks for the nice comments. Mark is an amazing painter and did great work throughout the apartment. Highly recommended!
The table is the round Silverado from CB2 and the Reidar chairs are comfortable enough for the price. The lighting (a work in progress) is the best we could manage for now, it's an awkward space for photos.
Thanks again!
Adorable!
I love the color, but lol'd at the word 'CRUST' in the kitchen.
I went to Home Depot and the colour I saw didn't look at all like in the pictures here. Either that or my laptop's screen doesn't render it correctly. On the paint card it looked like a deep forest green, not at all what I expected. So instead I went for Behr's Black Suede, which is basically a black with green undertones and looks exactly like I see the paint colour in the pictures here.
Fun kitchen... Where did you get the round mirror?
