Considering you could cross this narrow lot with two big steps, it didn't seem ideal for any structure, much less a home for three (plus parking!). But that's exactly what this Japanese family got and it's fantastic.

Located in Horinouchi, Japan, this work comes from Mizuishi Architects and they really did make some clever choices. See that overhang above? It not only adds square footage to the inside of the home, it also provides weather protection for a parking spot.

Soaring ceilings and skylights keep this tiny space feeling open and airy.

It's shocking how spacious this home feels thanks to its multiple levels and clean, modern design. Looks like their cat likes it, too (can you spot it?).

We're ready to move in, yesterday.
