When I was a child I had the old versions of the Babar books (script writing, lush colors, quirky stories by Jean de Brunhoff - father of Laurent), and I recently rediscovered how sweet they are again. Of all of them, however, "Babar and His Children" is one of the most touching as Babar and Celeste (his cousin!) have children and Babar frets about it all. While great for children, it's also a great gift for new parents.

The sixth and second to last Babar book that Jean de Brunhoff wrote, the first edition came out in 1938 and I recommend buying a copy. You don't need a collectible, expensive version, just any old 1938 version will do. The

feeling of holding something almost 100 years old is palpable.
