The Baby Björn carrier has been a staple for new parents for years. Now they have a new line made from organic cotton and sporting a great modern gray color.
Baby Björn has three of their best-selling products in the organic line, made from 100% organically grown cotton and certified through GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard. The Classic Carrier, perhaps their best-known product, is ergonomic for both the wearer and the baby. The Active Carrier adds additional lumbar support and padded straps for longer or more strenuous outings, and the Babysitter Balance is a bouncy seat that gently rocks your baby in one of three positions: play, rest, or sleep.
Available at Babies R Us.

Nomade Express Slee...
Unless they went through drastic changes, Baby Björn would be anything but ergonomic, I'm afraid...
No thanks, I'd rather not dangle my daughter by her crotch. Beco for me!
Yeah - the bjorn is not good for anyone involved. I'll stick with our beco and our wraps.
Diddo the other comments. Although I've got the similar organic Boba 2G instead of the Beco.
Huh. I love mine.
Ugh, I had one. We all hated it. My baby screamed, I screamed, my husband screamed. My shoulders and back ached after just minutes of using it. I ended up getting educated on how bad these things are for my baby and bought a Sleepywrap instead. Best thing I ever did for my baby. Now that he's bigger I got a Boba- we all love it.
It's not ergonomic, and they know it, why keep producing it??
I prefer our Ergo - it's actually comfortable for me, better for my baby, and the organic version comes in tons of colors.
I had a baby bjorn when my kid was a baby. He loved it. I loved it. I put him in it all the time. It was one of the best things I had. He is nine now. He is fine: fit, runs, jumps, plays, gets all A's in school. Guess the baby biorn did not kill him or even hurt him. To each his own people.
Well, maybe it made it so I can't spell. But I think that is more a product of trying to type and cook dinner at the same time.
Yeah, the Bjorn is not ergonomic for wearer or wearee.
You can recognize a good baby carrier by the hip straps for the parent and by a wide base for the baby to sit in/on. The outward-facing position (that babies after a certain age love because they love to see what's going on) is unfortunately not good for proper spinal development.
Let's slowly back away from defensive "my kid is just fine" arguments and, now that research clearly shows that this product is not ideal, find better alternatives. I had a Bjorn for a while that I used fairly regularly. When I found out that it was potentially harmful, I switched to a different carrier.
I don't think it is defensive, more that with some time you see that they "research" on products change all the time. I am sure that nine years ago, back in the olden days, the reasearch said that such and such was the best for the baby. Now it tells you to buy something else or you will do harm to thier spinal development. We parents freakout and get something new. I am not going to hurt my child. Really, his spine is fine and so are all his friends who were put in these as well.
Yes, but we evolve in our knowledge all the time as a society. Sleeping on tummies vs. backs is a prime example. Sure, I'm alive along with many others out there who were put to sleep on their stomachs but if you KNOW there's a safer, more reasonable choice out there, why NOT utilize that knowledge, especially when it comes to your child? I'm all about wraps and things like the Boba, Beco, and Ergo, which are just amazingly awesome and comfortable carriers for the baby and caretaker! Did I mention, safe? Yes, that too!
Another vote for the Boba, instead.
I had a Bjorn with my son seven years ago. Like TrishinPeoria's son, he is perfect and we had a great experience with it. But I probably would not purchase another one because of the new research about it. I'd probably go with an Ergo or something else for our next child.
I'm so glad that people here are aware of issues surrounding Bjorn's. Another Ergo family, and super happy with it!!
For any parent considering a Bjorn, please consider an Ergo or similar first!!!
I used to carry my son in a special sling by Amazonas. It cost around 50 euros, and I could wash it and change the positions when tired.
I don't like carriers; they hurt after a few minutes. When made with the correct fabric (that you can't find yourself, I tried), and with the correct position, it's excellent for a child's back, and for you too. So, I'm sold on good-quality slings !
Ok, don't freak out, but... Ergos aren't attractive. Bjorn is the best looking baby carrier out there. I use one and wasn't aware of any research about it being harmful (but I'll Google that now). I really love it and so does my son.
I <3 Ergo
the Bjorns have nothing on the gorgeousness and versatility of Beco Butterfly (and the new Beco Gemini. i don't get sore until at least an hour after having my 22 lb 10 month old in the Beco, it's wonderful! i don't get the appeal. for just as much money you can get an awesome COMFORTABLE carrier, and way more cute! we love our Beco!
VanessaNYC - who puts looks/style before their baby's comfort/development? Wow.
Also, I've noticed in gossip mags that many more 'celebs' are using Ergo's now, so who knows... they'll probably be hip soon.
