Name: Madelyn
Location: Bothell, WA
When we found out that Madelyn was a girl, nursery preparation started right away. We knew we were working with a budget so DIY projects were going to take some time to work themselves out.
The first thing we tackled was the wall painting (or should I say, the first thing my husband tackled was the painting). We picked out a nice cream and gray and started going for it. One coat in and we realized that the cream was more of a yellow and had to start over. However, the end result was worth his efforts (a huge round of applause to my husband). The stripes only go across two walls and the other two are cream.
Th next big project was the dresser/changing table that we found on Craigslist. My husband and his ever so talented Aunt sanded it down, painted a coat of coral on it, then dry brushed in some orange for the texture. We then added the knobs from World Market. LOVE it!
We also custom made the sign with her name going across it for above her crib. This is a piece of plexiglass that we had done at a local sign store. We then drilled holes through it and weaved some chain through so it could hang from the ceiling.
The room was very much a joint effort of DIYers. The painting was done by a family friend, window valance by our aunt, bedding custom made by my mother in law and decorating done by me.
All in all, I think it's a great blend of modern and vintage that I am so excited to welcome Madelyn to in a few short weeks!
We agree! Thanks Melissa and Kyle! Readers, find Melissa at Tiny Toes.

So cute! But the Over The Rainbow lyrics is not quite right. Why not? Copyright issues?

Cute room, but ixnay on the indsblay. Can you say urtainscay?
We aren't a fan of curtains, so we had blinds installed in our house when we moved in. Agree to disagree :-)
This room is absolutely gorgeous! The colors are fantastic and the valance is stunning! It is obvious that a lot of TLC went into this design. Unlike so many baby rooms you see now a days with generic themes, this room is unique and has so much character. Outstanding!
Not really digging the valance. It seems a bit too loud/eclectic and clashes with the rest of the room, which is really nice and calm. That's just one girls' opinion, though :)
Other than that, the room looks great! I really love the "Madelyn" sign hung with the plexiglass and the pendant lamp hung over the chair in the corner.
For the record, I chose blinds in my daughters' room over curtains and I'm very glad that I did :)
I've never liked mini-blinds and I'd never feel comfortable with them in my house after hearing the strangulation stories. We have completely cordless hexagon shades in some rooms and I love them. No cords for me to worry about and they provide some insulation too.
I am not a huge fan of valances, in general, but this one is pretty awesome! Don't worry too much about the cords on your blinds - just screw some of those tie backs into the wall and you can wrap the cords so they are out of reach. We got clear ones and you can barely tell they are there.
Hi - lovely nursery! Where is the ottoman from? would love to buy it for the nursery I'm creating... thanks!
"Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then oh why can't I"
Just typed that from memory...hello people it rhymes!! :)
That would bug the crap out of me to look at that every day...but the room is adorable!!
Just remembered the first verse:
"Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby"
Ok done being annoying ;)
