Name: "Baby W" (due Sept. 2012)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
We wanted a completely eclectic mix of masculine, feminine, bright and modern, vintage and classic. We also knew we wanted to mix old with new, and incorporate natural elements - and this was our laundry list of things were were sure of! Now how to make it work?
It was a bit of a challenge, being a third floor bedroom, dealing with the sloped ceilings and the smaller square footage. We had so much fun creating this space. We collected things over four years of fertility struggles, so incorporating them all without it looking like we regurgitated a children's store was something of a challenge in itself.
Some things were refinished or made by us: the dresser that was a damaged teak find, now is part of a set; the bench which we made on a sunny Saturday together; the toy bin that is a repurposed waterproof shopping bag; handmade onesies I made at my crafty tea party/shower. Other items were from our childhood: the shadow box, my husband's as a child, that contains a well loved Sophie that belonged to our beloved god-daughter; the laundry hamper that came from my husband's teenaged room; the stand up flowers I purchased with birthday money at age thirteen.
Everything is sewn together as best as possible with all the purchases we have made filled with love and excitement.
Thanks Emily and Nicholas!

White Enamel Four-P...
Woodsy warmth! I like it : )
Wonderfully whimsical!
I am seriously coveting that dresser.
I've never had kids, but aren't pillows in the crib a big "no no"? just sayin'....otherwise, super cute.
That is really cute. I really love the branches. I cringe a little inside every time I see a framed glass fronted picture above a crib. These are beautiful colors, by the way.
Suburbia*Sputnik - New parents don't need reasons to feel anxious!
Emily & Nicholas - Congratulations!! Your baby's nursery is warm and cozy. And especially after all it must have taken to get you to this point, your baby's arrival is really joyful news.
Congratulations on the little one! I'm tearing up a little here. So glad you were blessed.
And I love, love, love the branches on the wall. Now I want that in my own bedroom. So evocative. How did you affix them?
Again, congratulations! What a lovely room your baby will be coming home to!
It's probably just me, but I get a "Coraline" or Tim Burton/Nightmare Before Xmas vibe off those ceiling branches (whatever they're made of).
Presumably, the baby has NOT seen those films and therefore will *not* be creeped out by that effect ;)
P.S. Now if the branches were something that gave a BLOOMING effect, like cherry blossoms or what-have-you, THAT I'd be ooh-ing and ah-ing over. :)
This is just lovely. So glad you will get to love this sweet little one. Congratulations and this is a beautiful space for Baby W, when s/he gets here!
This is not really my style, but despite that, I still think you did a great job. Everything has its place, it's tidy, and it's creative. And I love your dresser. Seriously LOVE the dresser. That's the one component that really speaks to me. Great job!
Thank you everyone! @Suburbia*Sputnik, the pillows are a big no-no, but they don't stay in the crib when the little one gets in it! Also, @Borealis, it's very hard to see having only submitted a few photos from certain angles, but there is actually about 3 1/2+ feet between the pictures on the wall and the crib. An adult can certainly walk around the front of the crib there and fit with more than enough room between the shelf and the crib frame. It would be impossible for the baby to reach... and I also assume a few things may change around as the baby becomes more mobile.
@Kiwords- they are real branches that have been treated. We literally screwed through them with thin, matte black drywall screws to mount them all over the ceiling. They have a really neat, organic feel in person!
awesome!
This one of my favorite nurseries! Will be bookmarking it for inspiration when the time comes. Love all the colors and textures. Amazing job!
I love this space! The branches are awesome and could work in many different nurseries. Congrats on the brand new arrival to your family! <3
Looks amazing! Great job. We're looking for a light fixture for our nursery that is really low profile. Where did yours come from?
where did you get your glider? Love the room!
