I'm going to guess that the most important features of board books to babies is colorful, high-contrast pictures and chewy corners. So if the content is something parents can enjoy, all the better. I'm getting a kick out of this newish line of board books that introduce some of your favorite literary characters: Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy, Romeo, Juliet, Alice and Jane.
Author Jennifer Adams probably didn't envision putting her English degree to use in this fashion, but it's not a surprise that an editor at Quirk Books (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, for example) would think outside the traditional baby book box. Illustrated by Allison Oliver, the books are counting primers:

Pride & Prejudice and Romeo & Juliet are already out (also for iPod/iPad) and Alice in Wonderland and Jane Eyre are slated for a March release.

These are great. Thanks for the baby gift idea. Here is a set for the art buffs (aged 1+).
I'm in love
Even if these weren't about literary classics, they're still lovely in term of design. Finding decent, well illustrated board books is no mean feat!

I just saw these at the local art store gift shop and they are amazing!
I think the illustrations are lovely and I would buy these books if I could, but... I have reservations on baby-down the classics. The classics are perfect the way they are, and I think adaptations don't do them justice.
That said, they are so cute that I would definitely have them. They can't do much harm, can they?
I saw these on Silly Eagle Books and was just charmed. Cute art for the kiddos, and fun for the parent!
