We happily stumbled upon this mushroom kit at Whole Foods today and had to bring it home. It couldn't be simpler to grow your own mushrooms right in the box in just ten days. And guess what the mushrooms grow in as soil?
Recycled coffee grinds! After doing a little research on the company and how it got started with this idea of recycling coffee grinds by growing mushrooms- we're even more impressed.
If you live in an apartment like us and don't have any soil to plant in, this is a great way to teach about sustainability and growth. Kids will love spritzing the "soil" in the box every day (which is all you need to do) and seeing the edible mushrooms appear in just ten days.
Their website also has some free mushroom coloring pages.
Look for them at your local Whole Foods or pick one up at their website.

I bought that kit at Whole Foods, and it never produced. Very disappointing.

Oh this is cool Thank you for sharing it my sister has younger children who would have a lot of fun growing mushrooms. (they know how to grow everything else.)
On a side note... The face on the little child in the picture is completely priceless!
