But that was just the beginning. As it turns out, the true genius behind the Bake me a cake lamp is in the unique collaboration responsible for its creation. Designed by Morten & Jonas for Northern Lighting, the lamps themselves are to be manufactured through a partnership with the Norwegian correctional services, and will be crafted by the inmates at a Bergen area prison in Norway. Using oak wood and smoked tinted glass, the goal is to create a high quality product within the prison walls, and to challenge the inmates' ways of thinking and acting by providing opportunities for meaningful activity and pride in craftsmanship.
The clincher? The name of the lamp comes from the classic cartoon story where a mother bakes a file into a cake for her imprisoned son to help him escape. Love it!

This is ridiculously original and clever and making me really regret not buying the old cake tray I came across at a thrift store this week. Love it!
Mark me down for one, gorgeous.
Lovely, and my baker friend would LOVE this!
That's a nice one! I just posted lamps and color/light planning on my blog, come around and have a look at "+"Marialamontagne.blogpost.nl
Thanks for sharing! Lots of love & hugs,

I need this in my life!!
I've never seen anything like this. I love it!
Beautiful (love the steam-punk look). The fact that these will be made by inmates at a correctional facility further adds to the story of the lamp. Double awesome for me.
I definitely need this in my house. any tips on how we in the US should go about purchasing this awesome lamp?
I love the story behind the lamp. makes is so special!
As easy as it seems like it would be to make, I would definatley purchase it instead. I can not imagaine most glass cake domes being able to handle the heat of even a 40 watt bulb for prolonged use.
