Banana Leaf Divided Hamper

We had a good laugh at Grace's post of the Whale and Elephant Hampers, but we seriously need a new place to throw our dirty laundry. Our current hamper is on its last leg. The new hamper needs to be attractive enough to store in the bedroom (there just isn't room in our tiny bathroom) and big enough to hold a lot of laundry. One of the front-runners in the show down is this Banana Leaf Divided Hamper from Linens n' Things...

So many laundry hampers are round and unless you have a corner, round is not the best use of space. The Banana Leaf Hamper is also divided into two compartments, making pre-sorting easier. It appears sturdy and while I'm not crazy about the basket look, this one is not terribly offensive to my sensibilities. Finally, the price is also important. Currently $80 from Linens n' Things.

Is it my imagination, but it doesn't look like it will hold that much dirty laundry -- and not for my family!

It would double as a cat scratching post in my house.

You don't have to give excuses why you don't want your hamper in your bathroom. It should be near where you get undressed. For me, that's in the bedroom (hamper in closet).

I have also been looking for an attractive hamper for my bedroom. Everything I find is too small, poor quality, plastic or bad wicker and way too expensive. Am I crazy not to want to spend $80-$100 on a hamper?

If you're not a fan of wicker and like a more minimalist look that will fit in a tiny NYC bathroom, consider IKEA's ANTONIUS (maybe you could get another for the bedroom or closet). It's not fancy, it's a simple white poly-something fabric box on a metal frame with casters, and is a steal at $15.

Antonius wouldn't fit in my bathroom (at least while I was in it), but it's a bargain!

We have a couple of these at the spa I own. They hold a lot but the divider part breaks pretty easily if you are one of those open and throw types. The look quite nice though.

the Vetiver Hamper @ vivaterra is on my list. I am waitng for a sale to bring the price down from $169 :eek:

I have this hamper and have been pretty happy with it so far. The lining is attached with velcro, which made me a bit nervous at first, but it seems to be holding up pretty well. It's nice that clothes don't get stuck on the hamper itself like they do on unlined versions. And I LOVE not having to sort clothes on laundry day.

For a compromise between the $80 banana leaf and the $15 Ikea: I found some nice organic-looking ones at Pearl River for $30 to $40...
