While fancy shakers look cool, they often leak and are hard to clean. Speaking as a former bartender, the best shaker is the simple Boston shaker: essentially a heavy clear pint glass and a metal cup. It doesn't leak, is easy to clean, and is a real workhorse. It's also the only shaker left off this list for some reason . . .
I love the shakers in pic #1.
I absolutely second Torgny. Boston Shakers are infinitely better. And if you're really picky about how it looks, Alessi makes a sleek and sophisticated one. It'll set you back a pretty penny at $115 though.
I will throw in a third for the Boston Shaker. A lot of those shakers with built in strainers and tiny, tiny lids at the top tend to freeze shut depending on how long you're shaking a drink. I've had to wrestle with several at parties when they were the only option. If a Boston Shaker gets stuck, you simply whack it against a table and the glass and cup pop apart.
