Just opened: A new Mandarin Oriental hotel in Barcelona, Spain by one of our favorite designers, Patricia Urquiola. The hotel is housed in a mid-c building but is clearly up-to-the minute interiors-wise - just take a look at this lobby!
The lobby space is an interior tour-de-force - soaring ceilings, a patterned rug, large scale metal space dividers, lots of foliage and fanciful furnishings.
It's a big design that is an bold, original statement that reads as somewhat feminine, extremely light and very fresh. The addition of her "Crinoline" chairs is key - the lightweight yet larger than life chairs echo the overall "holiday" feel of the room.
In addition to really liking the palette, one of our favorite things about the room is how the space is broken up in varying ways; the furniture groupings that create smaller conversation areas within the huge room, the plants hung at varying levels in the vertical space, the varying pattern of the floor covering and finally the wonderful white metal dividers with their sort of retro space age starburst design hovering over and encompassing it all.
