Barnes & Noble Home Items

Who knew? While peeking around the B&N website, we happened to notice a "Home & Gift" category in the menu. Curious as to what would qualify to be in the "home" department, we checked it out, and were surprised by what we found...

Accent tables, shelves, lamps, vases - again, who knew? Sure, the offerings aren't vast, but it's a nice little selection. They've also got collections from Jonathan Adler and students from Savannah College of Art & Design (admittedly, these mainly feature paper goods, but there are a few decorative items here and there, too). Best part, if you're a B&N member your discount can be applied to any of the items. Check it out here.

thanks Lily, about the heads up about the alarm. I love the look, but i need function. I was going to get to buy it until now. Now i'm on a quest to find a exact match, with an alarm!!!

Am I the only one wishing Barnes & Noble would treat their customers better? As in "NOT charge a fee" for a preferred customer discount card? $25. That doesn't inspire me to shop at their site for books OR home decor. Every other bookseller doesn't seem to charge for their discount cards.

Also of note, it is 20% off one item in the home section right now. No code necessary.

Don't forget about the SCAD store online! Really unique, well-made stuff for the home as well as some beautiful jewelry, art, etc.

the flip clock would drive me nuts, i can't even stand the sound of a second hand on a clock doing around... I can hear them from rooms away.

thanks. I use my phone for an alarm so the clock not having one isn't a deal breaker. the only potential downside might be telling the time in the middle of the night. I'm guessing this doesn't light up in any way.

I can't speak for the website, but Barnes & Noble's actually had a home gift section for at least 10 years. (Not in every store, though.) I worked product development for that section starting in 2000, and it was in existence at least a year or two before that. Nice to see a broader collection now, though.

The Adler stuff appears to be just licensed, essentially. It's mostly the same items that are made in the main category, just reworked with Adler's artwork. For example, the blue hand bookends were previously purple flower bookends one season, green semi-circles another, etc. They're actually a really good, sturdy bookend, and I really want the Adler ones. Oh how I miss free samples! ;-)
