Bart Reardon's MacBook Air Project: Hacked With Style

The MacBook Air Keyboard casemod is one fine example of what a Mac-based Asus Eee Keyboard could look like. The Asus Eee Keyboard is the ultimate size in Home Entertainment PCs: the size of an average keyboard and it contains a complete computer.

This great casemod was done by Bart Reardon. It combines the inside of a MacBook Air with the aluminum body of an Apple Keyboard with the addition of a Magic Trackpad. This is definitely a small factor Mac, one of the sleekest that we've ever seen. It has an 80GB hard drive, as well as USB ports on the left side of the keyboard. There's a DVI port to connect to a monitor.

For now, this casemod isn't completely finished, but Bart promises that he's putting the final touches on this hack, adding proper sides and clearing up the rough edges. It's definitely an interesting build but there's no chance that Apple will start making these. If Apple were to make this, it would be somewhat of a niche product, and we wonder if it would appeal to everyone.

However, this keyboard Mac would make an interesting HTPC. It would be hard to think about a smaller form factor since it's the size of a keyboard. The only problem that we can foresee is connecting it to the home theater system because that would require some long wires. It's true though that the Asus Eee Keyboard almost looks like a Mac product, thanks to some nice design.
