The Basically British tearoom sits somewhat hidden at the back of the historic Cutler Mill complex in Warren, Rhode Island. Inside, there’s no mistaking that the cavernous room once housed the mill’s enormous boiler: pipes snake past exposed ceiling beams and brick walls. But the shop is also filled to the brim with vintage fabrics and antiques, most of which are for sale, and the result is a surprisingly hospitable space.
There is an interesting mix of furniture, art, tschotchkes and ephemera to sift through, along with a selection of goodies imported from the UK. Your pot of tea arrives under a house-shaped tea cozy, your milk in a vintage bottle and the selection of food is small, but tasty. Basically British is about a 20 minute drive from Providence and well worth a summer afternoon expedition.

Can I just comment how much I love seeing posts from Rhode Island? Between funky Providence, historically preserved Newport, and all the picturesque small towns, there's SO much style in Rhode Island. Looking forward to seeing more!
That copper teapot shop sign is great!
