While we love looking through ReadyMade magazine and are always inspired by the projects, more often that not we're left thinking, "I'll never be able to make that." You see, we're not that handy; it's our lot in life. Still, looking at Paul Schifino's lovely modernist bowl, we feel there's hope for us yet!
Inspired by a bowl made from melted toy soldiers in a previous issue of ReadyMade, Schifino constructed the bowl using orange construction netting. With repurposing so much in vogue, after we make the Basket Case Study bowl, we'll certainly be stylin'.
To make the bowl, Schifino cut two 19" circles out of the netting and placed them over a wok lid which was being used as a template. Setting his oven at 400°, he placed the netting over the lid on the bottom rack and watched it bend and melt a la Shrinky Dink. The results are a gorgeous bowl that looks so much more expensive that what it is. We approve!
