Chris Stout-Hazard, one half of the Design Hazards team (husband and business partner Roger Stout-Hazard rounds out the pair) has been on a DIY kick lately, and loving the feel and texture that his bath mat stool project did for their home, decided to try to incorporate it again in a new and fresh way.
It seems there's nothing one of CB2's cirrus bathmat's might not look clever on, as Chris proves in this DIY throw pillow using one of them. Its great thick texture would be a gorgeous addition to a couch or chair, but also a scary material to tackle if you're not the world's best sewer. Thankfully, Chris figures out any tricks or kinks for us and lays it all out clearly in a post on their site: Make Your Own Bath Mat Pillow. And though he's used another CB2 Cirrus bath mat, don't get caught thinking that's the only bath mat you could use. Use his simple tips and instructions to work some DIY magic on any bath mat you might love to turn it into a throw pillow that will look fabulous (and probably expensive-looking, too)!

Nomade Express Slee...
Looks cool but potentially uncomfortable. That's my reaction to a lot of pillows that sport 3D flowers and other embellishments. To me, comfort is as important as style in home furnishings. If this bath mat pillow passes a lean-on-it test, fine. Otherwise: points for creative form over function (not a passing grade).
I have this bath mat -- and warning, it BLEEDS. One drop of water and you will face stains. Washing it is a nightmare.
Doesn't the latex backing make it kinda stiff?
Gillianne: It's VERY soft. I'm considering making a much larger version because it's so comfy.
T3d: No backing on this one, so it's very flexible. Check the assembly photos to see the backside.
Chris: Good to know it passes the comfort test. I make pillows out of all sorts of things (esp. thrift store garments). Now I'll look at bath mats with a different eye. Gotta say that I love the color.
I like the signage letters on the wall in the 1st pic way better! Plz show more!!
It looks like a bath mat. :-/
There's an error in the title of this entry. Please replace "How" with "Why oh why".
It's supercool - if you didn't know it was a bathmat I bet some of these 1st reactions would have been different.
I made a pillow from a bath mat for my sisters college dorm and it's the softest pillow ever. Details about how I made it here: http://www.veryfondof.com/2011/11/softest-pillow-ever.html
I'm not feeling it. Maybe as a giant floor cushion. Otherswise it's a no for me.
it's a bath mat and re-purposed still looks like a bath mat (on a sofa).
