In a small apartment, everything counts as counter space. With this in mind, we set out to see what was on the tops of the toilets in our house tour archives. Surprisingly, most of you keep your toilet tank tops free and clear! On the others we found tissue boxes, vases, decorations and even a lamp. Check out these toilet vignettes.

Shaw's Original Fir...
nothing is on our toilet tank but we've installed a shelf a foot or so above the loo to hold pretty smelling things and extra loo-roll and a space has been left for people who like to carry a clutch or a wallet or mobile with no pockets. :)
Tissue box, vase and a candle.
A TimeOut book on London
just a Kleenex box
Tissue box and a vase or plant depending if we're in the bright bathroom or the dim one. An extra loo roll too if there are guests so they don't have to hunt for it.
I'd like to keep a clear toilet because we have a tricky flusher that occasionally needs intervention so the top needs to be pulled off very often, but we just have too little room in the bathroom. So I've got mostly easy to remove stuff - a basket of hand towels and a bowl of soaps.
A plant and a candle on a tank tray.
A basket w/ toiletpaper
Cat bed.
Funny, I justed noticed a pair of eyeglasses on the tank in one of the other bathrooms on this site (not in this group)... I was sort of thinking if the eyeglasses were for a man-it might be a good idea to put them on before... well... lets just say I now have some additional insight into why I dread cleaning day....
snacks.
small clock, carafe of mouthwash, lemon verbena Caswell Massey candle
I wish the toilet tank lid were flat! It's slightly curved so the carafe has a tendency to wobble
A sink, and nothing else.
I really like the idea of saving water this way.

a gigantic world world 2 history book that my husband tackles bit by bit.
wet wipes and air freshener... in that order
Dust.
Nothing else.
Oh. Well. Probably germs, too.
Comics.
Vase, framed art work, candle, and wet wipes...
a decorative box that something else came in? L'Occitane soaps maybe? The tampons hide in there.
The more commonly used hair products and a spiffy container of cotton swabs. I sort of have a "collection" of hair products for different occasions/weather/types of bad hair days, but most of them reside in the cabinet under my sink. I'm still hunting for the right over-the-toilet wall shelf. :)
All purpose spray cleaner.
Nothing
I once worked at a place that had a tiny bath for employees. While changing shirts and putting my hair up, I placed my hairbrush on the tank. I turned around and it fell in the toilet. The toilet was clean and all, but I decided that the best way to avoid that situation was to never place things on a toilet tank again.
Right now, our love fern. ;)
We're planning on buying a shelf to go over it, though, so that we have some more storage.
Nothing on mine. It's just an open invitation for the cats to knock stuff into the toilet if (more like when) someone forgets to close the lid.
Ignore the broken lid :-)

A battery operated candle and a book of disgusting things - LOL
I have 2 shelves--1 has decorative stuff (a reed diffuser and a shell) and the other has perfume bottles and a container with cotton balls. My makeup bag is on the tank lid.
Nothing...
A little too close to the action for my liking.
a jonathan adler "muse" candle and a stack of funky matchbooks.

Lovely toilet toppings bfny1980!!!
Now I must find away to spruce mine up!
Potted ivy plant and small ceramic turtle.
A candle and a reed diffuser, but it's a split bath (only the toilet in that room)...
I'm a big fan fan of decorating the toilet. http://su-casa.casasugar.com/Bath-Remodel-7719018
A small cathedral radio
A tissue box and a pirate rubber duckie.
