Do you have tips for kitchen remodeling as well?
I was redesigning my bathroom, and found out it has to meet ADA (disabled access) requirements if you move the plumbing. It's an elevator building, but my apartment is a one floor walk up, and the rule apparently still applies. You have to leave enough room for someone to turn around in a wheelchair.
Ooh I wish I had these a couple of weeks ago! Too late now though, everything is decided. Except... I can't decide if we should get rid of the vanity and put in a pedestal sink. The vanity is the one thing we were going to save $$ on by not replacing and it is in fine shape but it takes up a lot of space! But then we'd have to buy some sort of storage cabinet and it would be even more $$ for that too, so it probably won't happen. But will I regret it? I am trying to get the nicest bathroom I can for the least $$ expenditure and it seems like vanity vs. pedestal is not a priority for most people. Am I overthinking?
I think it's all about the look you are trying to achieve Anne. Pedestals (most) are certainly less expensive than vanities and you can get a secondary storage unit from Ikea or anywhere else if you have the space for it.
I'm actually looking for a vanity. I cannot find anything I like for under $1000.00. Here's my idea. crate and barrel.com, click on Elan nightstand. This piece would go perfectly with the look I'm trying to achieve in the bathroom and the wood will tie-in to the dining room table.
Does anyone think this is a bad idea? The depth is only 15" and a vanity is typically 20-22" deep. It's also only 22.5" high when a vanity is usually at least 30". I was thinking of wall-mounting it to give it the height.
I suggest buying a nightstand and doing a vessel sink on top. It works perfectly. We saved a ton of money on having a custom vanity made, and it looks like it was meant to be...
i want to totally redo a bath in my apartment and also add a brand new one. can anyone give me an idea of what that kind of thing costs in NYC? i know there is always a range in terms of fixtures, so generally on the lower to mid-range end of things. i've met with some architects and they're telling me $35K which seems like too much? or is that reality in NYC?!
