Battery Powered Candles

We've spotted these real wax flameless candles around and think they're a more affordable alternative to the expensive Oxo Candela lights we so admire.

Smith and Hawken sells the small size for $15 each. We saw these in person today at a Smith & Hawken store. They look like real candles because they're made of wax, they have a realistic flicker, and they also appear to have a dimmer function. They're available individually or in sets of six for $79. The Oxo Candela lights are sold only in sets of four and run about $70 at Amazon. The big difference is that Oxo's lights include a charger, whereas the ones Smith & Hawken sells require batteries—use rechargeables and you'll come out ahead. Other advantages: electric candles won't burn out in the middle of a party, provided they're fully charged, and they won't burn your house down.
