Don't let your curtains boss you around. Whether you're trying to solve a design problem or just mix up your look, feel free to break free from tradition and try something new with your curtains. Who knows, you just might spark the latest curtain trend. So, here are five "rules" you don't need to follow:

"Rule": Curtains Have to Match

The two examples above show that mixing and matching curtains can look chic and interesting.

"Rule": Every Window Should Have Two Panels

If your fabric is wide enough for coverage when you want it, sling it to the side and just use one per window.

"Rule": One Curtain Road For Each Window

Using one rod and two panels to cover two windows can give the illusion of having one big, expansive window.

"Rule": Curtains are for Indoors

Bring them outdoors to your patio or balcony to help create shade and ambiance.

"Rule": Every Window Should have a Window Treatment

Curtains could look nice here, but they don't look missing. And, wow, look at all the light.
