Yesterday Catrin brought us an interesting post about blue dining rooms. Apparently there are those who believe blue should stay far away from food because it makes it less appetizing. I, of course, don't believe with that and welcome blue with open arms in the dining room and the kitchen!
It seems as though white and muted colors are the most popular options for the kitchen and often subtle blues fall into that realm. It's not rare to see sea glass back splashes or even sea foam green, but, when bright blue is used it's certainly worth talking about. Bright blue creates the drama and demands attention, especially in an otherwise all white kitchen.
If bright blue is a little too much for you; how about a dark blue? When paired with white or beige cabinets it creates a preppy, clean and put together look that'll last for years to come. Of course muted blues and sea foam tones have been top options for years and we definitely don't see them going anywhere soon.

White Enamel Flatwa...
It's so funny, because I've always known that once I settle permanently into a home that I can decorate in a more sure way, I absolutely am going to have a turquoise and white kitchen!
I love each and every single one!
The first pic is similar to what we did to my daughter's small rental. Lots of color but can be covered when it's time to move.
mjs7640 - That is so beautiful! How did you achieve a similar effect? I would love to do this in my rental.
All are nice....but picture number three..ahhhh...be still my heart...
Blue is not a color people normally associate with food (except blueberries).
I would be cautious installing a blue color in the kitchen area; it can be done (I have seen some beautiful washed out blues), but it truly is difficult to pull together.
totally agree with wendym1... LOVE the third one! makes the kitchen look inviting, fun, and clean!
What is the material of the backsplash of the first picture?! I love how it is one even layer of glossy color instead of fussy tile!
I think the first photo is probably painted glass - the back of the glass is painted before install. I've seen it frequently in livingetc magazine.
I love it! I want them all!!!!
I do not keep an extensive dream list, but reverse-painted glass walls are one thing in the file I will never give up.
The back painted glass is a very easy and economical DIY. (http://www.glasspaint.com/) The secret to to do it in manageable sections. We covered about 12 ft long under area with 3 sections of 1/4" glass from our local glass store. I love the look. Sleek, easy to clean and no grout.
Thank you for the info on the painted glass! I love it. Any guesses about the countertop, flooring, and/or drawer pulls in this same photo??
