When I was a kid, the bean bag chair was de rigueur in the rooms of all of my friends. I was reminiscing about these poufy wonders, and it made me think: is the bean bag chair timeless or totally passé?
There are plenty of bean bag options on the market, some much improved from the vinyl ones I remember from my youth. I certainly would have loved, for example, the faux fur bag from PB Teen.
As parents, do you think bean bag chairs are a substantial design choice? Or do you think of them only as a practical piece that you'll have to live with?

Timeless.
Since I can remember them being "passe" back in, oh, the 70's, and yet...here they are--apparently, they are timeless!
Timeless--in the right materials/context. I mean, have you ever sat in a LoveSac? So comfy!!

Beanbag chairs and their close cousins the giant floor cushion are timeless. I still use them and so do some of my close friends. I'm glad they're made out of fabric now instead of vinyl. Sometimes you get tired of sitting in a chair or on a couch.
Impossible to get out of without major contortions if you have crapped out knees. I put them in same category as the butt-eating couches, on my Do Not Sit list. I didn't much care for them the first time around either, take up too much space. That said, if they work for you, why not?
Timeless... I LOVE my lovesac. It was my first purchase when I got a job out of college 5 years ago, and to this day it is still one of my favorite pieces in my house. Nothing beats curling up with a blanket, cup of coffee, and a book on a Saturday morning. When my friends come over with their kids, they will all pile up in the lovesac to watch a movie. So cute. Also many of friends have spent the night on the lovesac instead of driving home after a few too many drinks. Super comfy, and multi-functional!
I've been contemplating buying one for my kid. (I had a bright red vinyl one in the 70s, yes.) To me, they're like gliders--perfect for a certain stage of your life, not welcome beyond that. I loved my glider during my 3rd tri and nursing, but was happy to get rid of the big ugly thing when that time passed. If we do get a beanbag, I'm sure it will be a similar story. But thanks to this thread, I'll be looking at a Lovesac!
Timeless for kids. Who among us didn't love a good bean bag chair when they were 12? It was right at the top of the list of life's small pleasures along with sponge-painting your room and collecting inexplicably trendy crap (beanie babies, pogs).

my dog got arthritis and my old beanbag chair became her new favorite bed.
also beanbag chairs make awesome seating on boats, the bumps from wake are less noticible.
Both my girls got one for Chrsitmas this year. Yeah love it. use it all the time when building tents

Didn't care for them until I came across the idea of filling them with stuffed animals. Now it is my favorite storage piece!
Every time I see a bean bag chair, my eyes light up and I want to sit in it! To me, that says that maybe I shouldn't worry whether they're passé, and get one if there is ever room in my home.
More timeless than passé. I happen to have this exact same furry bean bag, and it's fantastic! It was the perfect cozy piece to add to the family room. Guests fight over it, kids love it, so timeless or not it definately gets a lot of attention.
Whether timeless or passé, they are mostly just uncomfortable.
