Growing up in Vermont, I've been to my fair share of barn parties. They've included some informal get togethers, but most were weddings. I'm a casual girl myself, but it's still amazing to see simple spaces transformed into elegant venues that glow beautifully at night.
Above: Check out this wedding at the Barn at Walnut Hill, by Maine Season Events, and photographed by Brea McDonald.
As we transition from outdoor to indoor living this time of year, these rustic structures are a fitting half-step between the two seasons. Here are a few more lovely spaces, and what looks like some fun events. (I'll just assume my invites got lost in the mail.)
1. Not so much a barn, but a detached shed, transformed for a 30th birthday party. As photographed by Kickstand Studios and seen on Garden and Gun.
2. A rustic wedding designed by Cedarwood Weddings.
3. Fall dinner party set up, courtesy of Ikea.
4. Designer Michael Abrams held his 50th birthday in this Michigan barn, as seen in Chicago Home Magazine.
5. Neversink Farm holds annual barn dinners in the Catskills.
6. An intimate dinner in the barn at the Condor's Nest Ranch.
7. Another simple and elegant wedding at the Barn at Walnut Hill.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Maybe it's the way these spaces are styled but it all seems horribly pretentious. having lived in VT and going to my fair share of barn festivities I can't imagine Vermonters doing anything but laughing at the ideas put forth here.
This warms my heart. My husband and I just celebrated our 8th Anniversary. We were married in a New England barn. Nothing pretentious about it. These spaces all seem rustic and laid back. And they do glow.

the only problem with dinner in the barn at condor's nest ranch is that it is a working barn and it stinks in there! i LOVE the ranch (i got married there) but we thought about having a cocktail hour or something in there and it was WAY too smelly with the new baby goats and pigs. :) wish there was a live link to that dinner party though.
One of the best wedding receptions I've ever gone to was in a barn owned by the Peabody MA Historical Society. The barn opens out to overlook Brooksby Farm apple orchards. Something about the rustic and peaceful surroundings made it an especially lovely setting for a very personal celebration.
But I love barns. My grandparents had a huge, very old barn with lots of little rooms and nooks that my cousins and I spent many many happy hours in.
I love barns. I dream of living in a country house with a barn in the backyard. These are very beautiful!
Spiders. Mice. Mildew.

These photographs are beautiful. Love the juxtaposition of rustic local and elegant decor.
