Just a few days ago, I was having a conversation with some co-workers about all the great black upholstery fabrics in the new collections. For the past few years, it's been difficult to find top-quality interior fabrics in that really black black. But it seems that black is having a moment, in upholstery, hard finishes and furniture alike.
Black in the home isn't for everyone, but it's a look I've always loved. These days we often see black in a minimal, Scandinavian style, but it can also be traditional and dramatic.
The spaces above use black in varying degrees, from major pieces of furniture to smaller accent pieces, lighting and accessories. In most of the examples, it's obvious that black works best alongside a hefty dose of white, natural light, and often pops of bright color as well. A great look if you've got the right space, but perhaps not the best idea for a North-facing rooms or low light situations. It's also worth noting that black shows dust and dirt as clearly as white does, so regular dusting and vacuuming is essential for maintaining its crisp look.
Over to you- how do you feel about black furniture in the home? Best used in small doses, or are you into all-out dark?

Howard Butcher Bloc...
love so many of these rooms. Ironically all I pretty much wear is black, gray and some dark denim but nothing save one table is black in my house....
this is so timely for me, as I just invested in a charcoal-black sectional. We have putty colored walls and white trim, with a mod (think Flor) muted mustard carpet. Not as crazy as it sounds :), the almost-black fabric swatch looked so dramatic and exciting against the walls and carpet, it was everyone's top pick who saw it. Can't wait to see the sofa in the room!
I like the black chairs with the wooden table!! They are beautiful!! I love them.

Gorgeous, #6 has me written all over it - wouldn't change a thing.
I did the opposite in my home; I have black walls with white furniture. It looks dramatic and amazing. People always comment on how amazing that color combination looks, especially the black walls. I just love it.
Charcoal gray is my new favorite. It's a great connector with rustic and modern pieces.
Like it!
I always mix brights like orchid purple, blue, or petal pink with black. Colors like straw, white, and cream decorated with black give a visually calmer feel but still has a striking effect.
I like the Livingroom because its balanced: although the furniture and the lamp are black, the walls and rug are white, and the floor is natural. Pillows and decorative accessories belong to other color groups.
The stripes, polk-a-dots, soft fluffy pillows, and the flower patterned ottoman make the room soft, comfortable, and fun. I don't think black should make a room look dreary and uncomfortable.
