Q: Here's a good bed question for you: Janelle Monae has great style and 'Tightrope' is very catchy, but any tips on where I might find a bed like the one at the end of the video?

Ikea has something similar: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89849971
My spare bedroom. It is an old iron bed that belonged to my grandmother so is probably 40's give or take a decade in either direction. Mom and I painted it and I took it to grad school with me and it has followed me for 25 years.
It's going to be an antique shop, auction, estate sale kind of find. Maybe ebay or craigslist.
Oh and it is a wee bit narrower than a standard mattress so that is something to consider. Take a tape measure!
Try this one at restoration hardware

A hospital? I think it's a restored version of the bed in the bottom picture here. :-)
I just saw a bed like this on craigslist in the bay area last week. There's this one on ETSY:

If it's just the general shape you're going for, IKEA has one for full through king beds.

Thank you Danica! I always forget that etsy does vintage as well as handmade. I even live in LA so hopefully I can go have a look at the antique one.
The IKEA and RH beds are pretty typical of the new iron beds - small tubes and more embellishments. I love the simplicity of the original and the large tubes.
It's an old no-frills bed probably from the 20's or 30's. I have a double that is very similar that I bought 15 years ago at a thrift store. They tend to rust and fitting supports for it are a challenge because the size is slightly different but it shouldn't be too hard to fit something like it. But they weigh a TON! So bring help.
Found one!
