When it comes to bedrooms, I've always thought that less is more. Clutter and color have just never done it for me in the room that supports oh-so-essential sleep. Instead, and especially in the summertime, I'm loving Scandi-inspired bedrooms: crisp, clean, and fuss-free. But what's the bare minimum you do need in a bedroom to create that perfectly zen zone?
Let's start with the basics, shall we? Some lush bedding, the type you can't wait to sink into at the end of a long day, is paramount. I'm a fan of stonewashed linen, but anything you want next to your skin will do. Don't scrimp here; two good sets that you can alternate is better than loads of sub-par sheets that you hate.
A Bedside Table
I use the term "table" loosely here, as anything can work: a chest of drawers, a small stool, an old wine crate, or even a stack of books. A spot by the bed to rest a cup of tea and your current reading material is important in any bedroom.
A Calm Color Scheme
Granted, calm is different things to different people, so if electric pink walls really chill you out, have at it. But for longevity's sake, I'm a fan of neutral bedrooms: white will always reign supreme, but pale grey or even dark, moody charcoal works too.
In the bedroom, you want lighting to be both soothing and practical, and if possible, dimmable. The bare minimum required is some form of reading/task lighting by the bed. From stylish hanging pendants to wall-mounted sconces and simple table lamps, the possibilities abound. Two people sharing the bed? Each should get a light source (and they don't have to match).
