Bedroom Peeks: Julie's Shimmery DIY

Feb 7, 2007

Julie sent in pics of her redone bedroom, complete with an almost all-DIY headboard and jewelry tree. She says, "My biggest accomplishment was the headboard. I've been wanting to make an upholstered headboard for years but have been too scared of the major power tools involved."

However, since my husband bought me a table saw (2 years ago) which I never used, I thought I'd pull up my sleeves and give it a try. Little does he know, the lumber store ended up making all the cuts for me! Shhhh....

Our room is pretty small measuring about 14' x 14.' I think the tall headboard and curtains have added some drama as well as lifting it up making it seem bigger. The dressers were my mother's childhood furniture that she shared with her two sisters. The "jewelry tree" is a branch from our alley that I spray painted and use to place all my necklaces to keep them from getting tangled. I kept the pallette pretty neutral so I have a calming and relaxing place to go at the end of stressful work days."

Thanks Julie! We're sure folks are going to want to know how you upholstered the headboard...
