Lush rugs underfoot in the bedroom feel so right in so many ways. They can soften a space, quiet it, warm it up, and help it to feel more luxurious. Here are a few bedrooms with rugs done in a few different ways:
• Under the bed only: a rug placed just under the bed with only a couple of extra feet on both sides, via Young House Love
• Allover: soft wall-to-wall in a white-on-white bedroom via CocoCozy Image: Erik Johnson
• At the bedside: Layered bedside rugs from the bedroom of Picnics Under the Moon (This is a "before" shot, but we had to feature it for those cozy rugs that greet your feet in the morning. For the record, we love the "after".).

I live in New England in a drafty old (140-year-old) house. I have old pine floors with lots of character. I had most of the floors refinished, but decided to put wall-to-wall carpeting in my bedroom. Boy oh boy, was that a good decision. I got it in Spring 09, and lemme tell you, Winter 09/10 so far has been much warmer.
I used to sleep with a hat on. Really. But the carpet (and new storm windows) has made my bedroom so much warmer. It's soooo nice not to have to put my feet down on cold floor in the morning (now it's cool carpet).
Is there a rule of thumb with rugs under beds? I have a platform bed and want to put a rug under it (mostly because I don't like the rug where it is now). It's a flat weave oriental style rug, beautiful. I'm concerned about ruining it by having most of it covered by the bed.
